SUSTAINABLE MANIFESTO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Matemica believes that sustainability must be sought at every scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A human-scale activity such as Matemica can - and must - do this through simple, concrete and measurable actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choices described here are in constant updating<\/strong> and are shared solely out of a willingness and pleasure to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spaces and energy<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The headquarters is housed in a historic artisan building from the 1960s, which was renovated in the 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No new land was consumed for its construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, prior to the opening of the new premises, the spaces were upgraded in terms of energy, reaching the class A4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The location was chosen on the basis of the distance from the owner's home (less than 1 km), so that it could be reached walking or cycling throughout the year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main source of electricity will be self-generated photovoltaic energy<\/strong> (plant under construction).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Production activities are planned favouring peak sunshine hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working hours are seasonally adapted to the natural light available<\/strong> and radiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heating and hot water production are entrusted to heat pump systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No fossil fuel (gas or diesel) is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Room temperatures, in which mainly active work takes place, are maintained at the minimum necessary levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobility and logistics<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Travel to customers and suppliers is kept to a minimum, favouring the use of IT tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suppliers' deliveries to headquarters are scheduled so that each supplier delivers only one day a week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematics uses a plug-in hybrid vehicle<\/strong> for the transport of materials and finished products, using mainly electricity from renewable sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internal material handling takes place through electric pallet truck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Materials and Process<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The design is oriented towards a minimal use of materials<\/strong>, reducing waste and non-strictly functional components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use of solid wood flooring favours woods with rapid growth<\/strong>, particularly conifers compared to broad-leaved trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wood shavings are reused in composting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The procurement of materials is done by seeking, where possible, the local supply chain<\/strong>, tracing the entire supply chain as far as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All finishes, stains and varnishes - both on wood and metal - are exclusively water-based<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waste<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Waste disposal takes place through a careful separation<\/strong> of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

paper, plastic, glass, metal, wood, oils and paints, batteries, electronics and other specific fractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Many of these practices are easily adopted and, to some extent, already standardised in the residential sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not so in today's industrial and craft scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
